On 11 December 2023 the Australian Government released the Migration Strategy which provides the roadmap for reform of Australia’s migration system.
This Migration Strategy recognises the importance of a longer term evidence-based approach to planning migration that closely collaborates with the states and territories and is driven by the advice of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA).
The Migration Strategy notes that transparency will be a guiding principle of JSA’s role in the migration system, and that JSA will submit its findings to Government and publish its analysis and recommendations.
We will also release information on the labour market methodology and stakeholder consultation process including how we will leverage the industry expertise of Jobs and Skills Councils, that will inform JSA’s advice on the Core Skills Occupation List for the new Skills in Demand Visa Program. JSA’s stakeholder consultation process will commence in the first quarter of 2024.
Information on the current Skilled Migration Occupation Lists can be found on the Department of Home Affairs website.
