The Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey (REOS) Recruitment Insights Report for January 2024 was released today.

Latest results show that recruitment difficulty increased by 4 percentage points over the month, to 55% of recruiting employers. Despite this increase, recruitment difficulty has been generally easing over the last 18 months, and now sits 20 percentage points below the peak of 75% in July 2022.

The recruitment rate was reasonably flat, increasing by 1 percentage point to 48% of employers in January 2024. Businesses often restart their recruitment early in the new year, so this result is not surprising. Employers were more likely to be recruiting in Rest of State areas (53% of employers) than in Capital Cities (45%).

The proportion of employers expecting to increase their staffing levels in the next three months was 24% in January 2024, increasing by 4 percentage points over the month. In comparison, only 1% of employers expected to decrease their staffing levels in the next three months.

The proportion of recruiting employers who were unable to fill their vacancies within a month was 56% in January 2024. This was 10 percentage points higher than a month ago but 4 percentage points lower than January 2023.
