The Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey (REOS) Recruitment Insights Report for July 2024 was released today.
An increase in recruitment activity of 5 percentage points was recorded in July compared to June 2024, with 44% of employers recruiting last month. This increase follows a sharp decline which occurred from May to June. Recruitment activity was stronger in regional areas at 50%, compared with 41% for employers in Capital Cities. The recruitment rate increased in regional areas, up by 6 percentage points, more than in Capital Cities which are up by 4 percentage points over the month.
The proportion of recruiting employers experiencing recruitment difficulty declined sharply by 8 percentage points to 47%. This is now 12 percentage points below the level recorded a year prior.
In July, employers’ optimism about future staffing levels remained unchanged, with the proportion of employers expecting to increase staff numbers in the next three months remaining at 18%.
There was a reduction in the proportion of employers whose vacancies remained unfilled after a month of recruiting, by 3 percentage points to 42%.
While some of these findings display some recent volatility, broader long-term trends are generally consistent with other labour market indicators, such as Job and Skills Australia’s Internet Vacancy Index, which point to an easing labour market.
