Recruitment difficulty eases relative to 2022 rates but recruitment activity remains high

Jobs and Skills Australia’sRecruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey shows that recruitment activity remained high in February 2023, relative to levels recorded over the past three years, with 55% of employers recruiting during the month.

The proportion of recruiting employers experiencing recruitment difficulty rose moderately over the month, by 5 percentage points to stand at 61% in February 2023.

Despite increasing in February, this is 14 percentage points lower than the record high of 75% of recruiting employers reporting difficulty, recorded in July 2022.

Some 27% of surveyed employers expected to increase their staffing levels in the next three months. This is 3 percentage points higher than in January 2023, and 6 percentage points lower than 12 months ago (33%). The proportion of employers who expected to decrease staff rose by one percentage point to 3% this month.
