Recruitment activity and recruitment difficulty increase in regional Australia this month.

The Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey (REOS) Recruitment Insights Report for September 2024 was released today.

The recruitment rate increased by 2 percentage points in September 2024, with 45% of employers recruiting. The recruitment rate was higher in Rest of State areas (i.e., regional Australia), 51%, up by 6 percentage points from last month, compared with 41% for employers in Capital Cities, down by 1 percentage point over the same period.

Recruitment difficulty increased by 2 percentage points this month to 52% of recruiting employers and is currently 7 percentage points lower than in September last year. The recruitment difficulty rate is currently 23 percentage points below the record high of 75% in July 2022.

In September, employers’ intentions to increase their staffing levels remained the same as in August 2024 at 22% of employers. The current figure is 3 percentage points lower than last year.

There was a decrease in the proportion of recruiting employers whose vacancies remained unfilled after a month, down by 1 percentage point to 44%.
