Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) has launched its Total New Vacancies (TNV) series – a new data source that estimates the total number of job openings across the country each quarter.
For the May 2024 quarter, the TNV reported 1,298,930 new vacancies.
While other data sources provide highly informative, specialised information - such as JSA’s Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) which focuses on recruitment via online job advertisements - the TNV uses additional recruitment method data to provide a broader picture of the number of job openings in Australia. This unified figure offers a broader reflection of the national job market, giving policymakers, businesses, and job seekers a better understanding of employment trends.
JSA hopes that this new approach will help inform workforce planning and skills development strategies by offering a clearer picture of where job opportunities are found.
Your feedback will help shape the future of the TNV series, as the methodology behind this new approach is refined into the future.
