Employers in remote and very remote Australia buck the trend in the first half of 2024

The Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey (REOS) spotlight for October 2024 was released today. This spotlight looks at recruitment experiences across Major Cities, Inner Regional Australia, Outer Regional Australia, as well as Remote and Very Remote Australia.

Remote and Very Remote Australia was the only area to record an increase in recruitment activity in the first half of 2024. Recruitment activity surged to 70% of employers in that area, up from 62% in 2023. This was much higher than the national average, which stood at 47% in the first half of 2024.

While recruitment is usually much more difficult for employers in the remoter areas of Australia, fewer employers stated that they had difficulty recruiting in the first half of 2024 and the recruitment difficulty rate in Remote and Very Remote Australia dropped to a record low of 53% in the first half of this year.

The Northern Territory had the highest recruitment rate among all States and Territories, which was around 70% in the first half of 2024. The data also indicated that the recruitment rate was even higher in Remote and Very Remote Northern Territory.
