The latest Labour Force Trending (LFT) data for August 2024 has been released, offering valuable insights into Australia's employment landscape. The report provides a comprehensive view of workforce trends, complementing sources like the Internet Vacancy Index and Employment Projections.
This national and state-level data, alongside the Industry and Occupation Employment Trending Methodology paper, supports strategic decision-making and workforce planning for businesses, policymakers, and researchers.
Key findings from the August 2024 data show strong growth in the Health Care and Social Assistance industry, up 4% in the last year. There has been a shift toward higher-skilled jobs, with Skill Level 1 occupations (requiring a bachelor’s degree or higher) now employing over 5 million Australians, making up more than a third of the workforce.
More than 3.8 million Australians are employed as Professionals, with the sector growing 21.9% over the past five years. Registered Nurses, Accountants, and Software Programmers are among the top-employing occupations.
Technicians and Trades Workers remain a crucial part of the workforce with employment in this occupation group at almost 2 million in August 2024, adding 159,800 workers over the past five years (up 8.8%).
This data highlights the ongoing demand for skilled labour and provides a roadmap for future workforce planning in Australia's evolving economy.
