With youth unemployment at 9% - more than double the national rate - and a growing number of young people not in employment, education, or training, the path to stable employment has become increasingly complex.
This new research aims to shed light on the factors influencing successful job placements for young Australians and offer insights into the barriers and opportunities they encounter.
Key findings include:
- 58% of employers reported having young applicants (aged between 15 to 24 years) in the last 12 months.
- 82% of employers who had applications from young people ended up hiring at least one young person.
- Medium and large businesses were more likely to have a successful young applicant than the small ones.
- Only 18% of businesses accessed programmes and subsidies when taking on young applicants.
- The right attitude, good communication skills and relevant experience were the skills and qualities employers valued the most.
