VET Blueprint National Actions

Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) has been tasked with delivering the VET Blueprint National Actions project to support the VET Workforce Blueprint. Developed in collaboration with states and territories, the VET Workforce Blueprint outlines 8 opportunities and 14 actions to attract, retain, develop, and support the VET workforce. It reflects extensive consultation with the VET sector and JSA’s VET Workforce Study.

As part of this work, JSA, through the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, is responsible for key actions under Opportunity 1 – Better Understanding the VET Workforce, specifically:

  • undertaking comprehensive occupational mapping for the VET workforce to identify and inform broader actions to strengthen pathways into and through the VET workforce
  • developing a data strategy to enable the collection of VET workforce data to support policy and workforce strategies and inform ongoing research
  • establishing an ongoing research program to develop a robust evidence base for key workforce issues.

The JSA 2024-25 Work Plan outlines key priorities to shape Australia’s future workforce. Outcome 3 of this plan focuses on leveraging analytic insights to support workforce initiatives, including those related to the VET Workforce Blueprint initiatives. JSA’s VET Blueprint National Actions project is one of these initiatives, aiming to build on the work of the JSA VET Workforce Study, which identified the need for accurate and consistent workforce data to strengthen Australia’s skills system.

This project will lead to the development of a Nationally Consistent Collection of VET Workforce data that can be used to inform VET sector policy considerations.
