Recruitment activity increases in May 2023

Key recruitment indicators in Jobs and Skills Australia’s Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey for May 2023 tightened over the month.

Recruitment activity increased by 1 percentage point in May 2023 to 51% of employers recruiting. This month’s recruitment rate was still lower than levels recorded a year ago. A lower proportion of employers recruited in capital cities (49%) than in rest of state areas (55%) over the month.

Recruitment difficulty increased by 5 percentage points to 67% of recruiting employers in May 2023, (representing 34% of all employers).

Recruitment difficulty in capital cities increased by 6 percentage points to 65% of recruiting employers over the month, while increasing by 3 percentage points to 69% in rest of state areas.

There was a 4 percentage point increase in the proportion of employers expecting to increase staffing levels in the next three months, now at 24% of employers. This increase was evident across both capital cities and rest of state areas.
