The January 2025 ALMM report provides a detailed assessment of Australia’s labour market performance over the past year. While the report shows that the labour market remains strong overall, some indicators suggest a softening in conditions.
Over the 12 months to November 2024, employment growth varied significantly across industries:

Health Care and Social Assistance recorded the largest increase in employment, adding 70,200 to the estimated workforce.

Education and Training saw growth of 54,900.

Accommodation and Food Services added 42,700.
At the same time, some industries experienced employment declines:

Manufacturing recorded a reduction of 16,400 to the estimated workforce.

Financial and Insurance Services employment fell by 7,800.

Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services employment decreased by 7,200.
In terms of growth rates, Electricity, Gas, Water, and Waste Services led with an increase of 8%, followed by Rental, Hiring, and Real Estate Services with a rise of 6.1%. Accommodation and Food Services and Education and Training both recorded growth rates of just over 4%.
